Jodie’s acting up a storm
ALAN BENNETT’S TALKING HEADS
BBC1, 8.45pm SHE’S most often seen as stylish international assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve, but now Jodie Comer takes on a new role.
In this next instalment of Alan Bennett’s rebooted monologues, Jodie plays actor Lesley in an episode titled Her Big Chance.
Well spoken, immaculately dressed, articulate and “professional to my fingertips”, Lesley prides herself on doing her very best, even for a walk-on role.
She has even been in Crossroads. She was a guest at a wedding reception. Although she’s not often given serious roles.
“Whatever it is I’m doing, I must get involved, right up to the hilt,” she laughs.
Lesley talks us through her most recent job. After a chance encounter, she is thrilled to land an audition for a film.
If she gets the part, she’ll be playing the role of Travis.
But Travis spends most of the film bikiniclad on the deck of a yacht and it might not be everything she’d hoped.
There’s a dodgy director to contend with and some scenes that might leave her a little uncomfortable.
Continuing with a double bill, Lucian Msamati plays Wilfred in an episode called Playing Sandwiches.
Wilfred is a parks attendant with a fondness for Liquorice Allsorts.
After he befriends a young girl and her mother on the bandstand, it soon becomes clear why his records can’t be traced.
Always dramatic, witty and more than a little ominous and disturbing, these are two more gems from a must-see series.
