Lose those lockdown love handles

Delicious Slimming World recipes.. day 1

-

WE have all been affected by coronavirus. For some, it’s the death of a loved one, for others, it’s money worries and the loss of jobs.

There are those trying to get by in a changed reality, struggling with home schooling, and physical health and mental wellbeing challenges have hit everyone.

What we need now is a helping hand to get back on track, and we’ll be giving you just that.

Week one will focus on health as we emerge into our new reality. And today, as millions have piled on the lockdown pounds, we focus on resetting your diet again...

From banana bread to sourdough and burger sauce, the list of lockdown food trends has been long. So it’s no surprise the pandemic has had a significant impact on our eating habits.

Research conducted by Slimming World showed a third of UK adults are eating more sugary foods (33%), nearly one in five (17%) are consuming more fatty foods, and 13% are drinking more sugary drinks.

Around a fifth are eating less fruit (22%) and 16% less veg.

Thankfully, there is some good news. Slimming World’s Health and Wellbeing Study of 1,000 people also revealed that 45% said they were finding home cooking more enjoyable than before lockdown, and half (51%) said they’re ordering less takeaways.

Lots of us will be thinking we don’t want to end this time heavier than when we started it. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean sales of lettuce leaves and celery sticks are about to go the way of toilet roll and yeast – in fact, Slimming World says going hungry is not the route to go down if you want to lose weight.

Slimming World’s dietitian Carolyn Pallister says: “We might think we need to be overly strict when losing weight, but this approach leaves us more hungry. This is one of the reasons many people ‘fall off the wagon’ and this can leave us feeling guilty, often leading to yo-yo dieting.”

Research by Slimming World and the University of Leeds showed a diet based on low energy dense foods – foods that contain fewer calories per gram – such as fruit and veg, lean meat and rice, allows people to reduce calories while eating more, not less, and is more effective for weight-loss than calorie-counting.

Carolyn adds: “By filling up on low energy dense foods, people can feel more satisfied and lose weight so they are able to stay on track.”

These delicious recipes show how, with Slimming World’s Food Optimising plan, you can lose weight and not go hungry.
