TV block will hit dementia OAPs worst

- BY BEN GLAZE Deputy Political Editor

PEOPLE with dementia will be some of the worstaffected when over-75s lose their free TV licences, campaigners warn.

An estimated 61% of people with the condition live at home and will miss out from August 1.

The Silver Voices campaign group said: “In many of these households, the TV will be on during all waking hours for companionship, stimulation and to prevent depression.”

Dennis Reed, of the group, said: “Boris Johnson can’t escape responsibility.

“It was the Conservative Government that forced the BBC to take on responsibility for free TV licences for the over-75s, but didn’t provide sufficient funding.

“The PM must act to resolve this crisis.”
