Labour quiz Tory donor’s bid for Lotto
LABOUR is pressing the gambling watchdog over plans by a billionaire Tory donor to become the new National Lottery operator.
Ex-newspaper tycoon Richard Desmond hopes to oust Camelot when the next licence is awarded.
But it comes as his links to the Tories are under scrutiny amid a planning row involving Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick.
There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by developer Mr Desmond.
But Shadow Culture Secretary Jo Stevens said there were questions about his “cosy relationship” with the Government.
Ms Stevens is to stress to the Gambling Commission the need for “robust and transparent process” in awarding the new licence.
