300 at food plant traced over disease

-

HEALTH officials are tracking down more than 300 workers at a food factory after 166 members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The outbreak has hit Rowan Foods in Wrexham, North Wales, which employs more than 1,000 and supplies Asda and Sainsbury’s.

It comes weeks after staff walked

out over alleged concerns about working conditions in the pandemic.

Public Health Wales said: “There is no evidence that Rowan Foods is the source of the outbreak.”

Rowan Foods said all staff on site between June 21 and 24 had been tested and added: “We provided the Public Health Wales testing unit with

a list of nearly 300 colleagues who were not on site.”

It claimed that more than 300 staff were still awaiting test results and added that a Health and Safety Executive inspection last week found “no serious issues which need addressing and we continue to comply with the law”.
