Wimbledon scam is OAP’s 96th offence
TICKET CON Clugston
A 73-YEAR-OLD conman known as Champagne Charlie has admitted selling fake corporate packages to Wimbledon.
John Clugston, who has a six-decade history of criminality, offered a Sohobased entertainment company tickets in 2018.
Clugston sold Parkland Pictures employee John Cairns a “premium” deal of a pair of tickets, food, transport, and a meet-andgreet service for £1,500.
Westminster magistrates heard Clugston then disappeared with the cash.
Prosecutor Jonathan Bryan said Clugston’s record of 96 offences began with a theft in 1960.
Clugston, of Brighton, admitted fraud by false representation.
He was granted bail and will be sentenced later.
