Teen in court on Liver Building firework rap
A TEEN has faced court accused of causing an estimated £10,000 of damage to the iconic Royal Liver Building in Liverpool with a firework.
Matthew Egglesden, 19, allegedly damaged a balcony, decking and stonework during celebrations after Liverpool FC’s Premier League football title win last week.
He is charged with arson and throwing a firework in a public place. Christopher Mantle, defending, told city magistrates no plea to the arson charge would be indicated at this stage.
He said Egglesden, of Scarisbrick, Lancs, accepted discharging a firework – but the issue would be whether his was the one that caused the damage. The judge ruled the case was too serious to be dealt with at the magistrates court.
Egglesden was freed on bail to face Liverpool crown court in July.
