Sauté know who it is?

BBC1, 9pm

WE’RE told this celebrity series is set to be ‘a who’s who of drama, music, sport and showbiz’ – and ‘who’s who?’ is certainly right.

Footie legend John Barnes is there, but the rest of the contestants in this first heat might need introduction.

They are recording artist Myles Stephenson, best known as one quarter of X Factor boyband Rak-Su, entrepreneur Thomas Skinner, best known for being fired by Lord Sugar, comedian and radio DJ Judi Love and Death In Paradise actor Shyko Amos.

Of course, the celeb status doesn’t matter all that much once they’re in the kitchen and under the watchful gaze of John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

All’s good as long as we get panicking rabbits in headlights chasing around the kitchen and serving hit-and-miss food... which we do. “I don’t do all this measuring,” says Judi. “I ain’t got a clue,” says Thomas. While Shyko says: “What are my strengths? I can think of no strengths.” Myles cooks for his mum and dad and three brothers and reckons he’s not bad, but that doesn’t stop him serving up a raw rack of lamb in the first challenge. The task was to serve up one great plate of food in 50 minutes. Once they’ve done that, they must face the paying customer, cooking in proper restaurants during a busy lunchtime service.

Then it’s back to HQ to prepare their very own dish to wow the judges and avoid being sent home.

We’ve seen it all before, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to watch.
