Becker: You rat Kyrgios: You’re a doughnut
which saw world No.1 Novak Djokovic contract coronavirus.
Becker returned serve in defence of his fellow German (right) to start an entertaining rally worthy of Centre Court in Wimbledon fortnight.
The six-time Grand Slam champion, who also coached Djokovic, tweeted: “Don’t like no #rats! Anybody telling off fellow sportsman/woman is no friend of mine! Look yourself in the mirror and think your better than us.”
Kyrgios made his first point by replying: “For goodness sake Boris, I’m not competing or trying to throw anyone under the bus. It’s a global pandemic and if someone is as idiotic as Alex to do what he has done, I’ll call him out for it. Simple.”
‘Boom Boom’ Becker replied: “We all live in the pandemic called Covid-19! It’s terrible and it killed too many lives... we should protect our families/loved ones and follow the guidelines but still don’t like #rats.”
Kyrgios returned: “Rats? For holding someone accountable? Strange way to think of it champion, I’m just looking out for people.
“When my family and families all over the world have respectfully done the right thing. And you have a goose waving his arms around, imma say something.
“@TheBorisBecker is a bigger doughnut than I thought. Can hit a volley, obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed though.”
Becker, who suggested he had spoken to Zverev privately, told the Aussie he was a “funny guy” and added: “There is an unspoken understanding between athletes!
“Whatever happens on the court stays there including the lockers!”
Bad boy Kyrgios, 25, is usually better known for throwing chairs and matches. But in this crazy Covid-19 world, he is now a voice of reason.
In June, he said he would “get my hazmat suit ready” to play in the US Open and then that the decision to run the Adria Tour was “bone-headed”.
Imagine the headlines he would generate if he ever gets beyond a Grand Slam quarter-final?
