THAT’S VERY MASON

Greenwood scores one and makes one while a double from Fernandes spells trouble for Brighton

NOW you can see what this Manchester United team are all about.

And it is straight from the club’s finest traditions of goals, all-out attack and homegrown players as United completely outclassed Brighton at the Amex.

It was a joy to watch, a real treat and, even though it has taken a while, it is clear that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is really building something special. Bruno Fernandes appears to be the missing piece in the jigsaw as the £67million deal which brought him to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January has not only pushed United to another level, but also appears to be bringing out the best in Paul Pogba.

Fernandes scored twice and his second goal, United’s third, underlined his quality because it came from a devastating counter-attack full of pace and power.

Mason Greenwood is just 18, a product of United’s youth academy who is living up to all of the hype and expectation as he scored his 13th goal of the season and provided a wonderful assist.

United’s victory pushes them up to fifth, level on points on Wolves but with a better goal difference which is hardly a surprise when they play like this.

They have got a Champions League place in their sights but, after a few false dawns, they really seem to be going places under

Solskjaer. In fact, if they carry on making such progress then perhaps they can step forward and be genuine title challengers next season – because they certainly have the attacking prowess and a blossoming partnership of Fernandes and Pogba in midfield.

Maybe, just maybe, Liverpool’s dominance in this season’s race has woken up United to make sure they chase down their great rivals.

Solskjaer may lack managerial experience but understands United’s DNA and proud history.

This generation has done nothing yet but they are moving in the right direction once again.

And what really caught the

eye was the way Solskjaer set up his team because it was wonderfully gung-ho, beautifully entertaining and they were a joy to watch.

Solskjaer put all his faith in his attacking players, only Nemanja Matic stayed back to protect his defence and even the full-backs, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw, swarmed forward to join in attack.

Solskjaer had told strikers Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial they had “no divine right” to play for the club and it was like they were on a mission to prove their point. They were relentless and attacked from all angles.

Fernandes had already hit the post before Greenwood put United ahead after just 16 minutes.

Greenwood has been lauded as United’s next big thing for some time and the way he picked up the ball in midfield, glided forward, tricking defenders with stepovers was brilliant before squeezing a low shot inside Brighton keeper Mat Ryan’s near post. After 29 minutes, it was 2-0. Shaw overlapped from the left back slot, pulled the ball back, Pogba got the ball back to Fernandes and it took a deflection to beat Ryan again.

United’s best goal was their third five minutes after the break.

Brighton were actually pushing forward, United cleared their lines, Matic swept the ball wide to the left for Greenwood who raced away and then put over an inch-perfect cross. In raced

Fernandes at the back post to volley home past Ryan.

It was a beautiful goal, lightning quick and underlined Fernandes’ quality and United’s credentials.

Brighton did show some fight at the end and created chances to force United keeper David de Gea into good saves but it was too little too late.

United are now 15 games unbeaten but this is also the most fun, entertaining and exciting they have been to watch in years.
