THE ex-wife of The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown has accused him of siphoning off vast sums of money to conduct “sordid extra-marital affairs”.

Blythe Brown claims the 56-yearold lived a double life in the final years before their 21-year marriage ended in divorce last December.

She alleges the marital estate was substantially reduced as he diverted funds to buy lavish gifts for mistresses including a Dutch horse trainer identified by the initials JP.

Artist and historian Blythe, 68, had brought the trainer to the US from Holland in 2013 to work with a Friesian horse the couple owned, she claims in a US lawsuit.

She says she found out only after the divorce was finalised that Dan had begun an affair with JP in 2014.

She claims Dan, whose bestselling book sold over 80 million copies and became a £613million-grossing film starring Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou and Sir Ian McKellen, bought JP a £280,000 horse named LimiTed Edition, a car and a truck, and paid for renovations to her home in Holland.

When she confronted Dan in January about the affair, he allegedly told her: “I’ve done bad things with a lot of people,” and admitted he had also had a tryst with a local hairdresser.

She later found he had also bedded his personal trainer and a “political official” at the couple’s Caribbean holiday home in Anguilla, she claims.

Dan lived a “life of lies” during their last years together, according to her suit filed at Rockingham Superior Court in Brentwood, New Hampshire.

She says she played a critical part in her husband’s success as his lead researcher, and “developed the premise of the critical concepts, historical emphases and complex plot twists” for all his novels — including The Da Vinci Code.

Blythe moved out of the couple’s home in New Hampshire in 2018 and agreed to a quiet divorce after Dan told her he was unhappy.

Now she is suing him for allegedly misrepresenting their assets in the divorce and for emotional distress.

She said in a statement: “With great success came our promises to each other that we would not let it change us or our life together.

“I don’t recognise the man that Dan has become. It is time to reveal his deceit and betrayal. After so much pain, it is time for truth.”

Dan said he accurately reported their finances in the divorce and was “stunned” by her “false claims”.

He said she “has created through this suit a fictional and vindictive account of aspects of our marriage designed to hurt and embarrass me”.
