Shops poach foreign eggs

-

HUGE demand for eggs has led UK supermarkets to turn to European neighbours for more supplies.

Sainsbury’s has had to ship in barn eggs from Italy and Spain after selling two million extra per week.

A spokesman for the retailer said: “To continue our long-standing commitment to… cage-free eggs, we have been forced to temporarily source from other countries.”

Lidl had to sell Dutch eggs in May due to the surge in lockdown cooking.
