THINGS WE LEARNT

-

HE has been talked about as the striker who can fill the boots vacated by Sergio Aguero as he recovers from surgery.

And the omens are definitely with Gabriel Jesus in the Premier League.

On Saturday night in Brighton, Jesus (above) struck the second goal as Manchester City moved into top gear on their way to a thumping 5-0 win to secure runners-up spot.

His effort came a minute before half-time – and the stats show that when he scores, all is well in the world of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Jesus has scored in 32 Premier League matches for City.

They have won 31 of those games and drew the other.

In fact, City have won their last 29 Premier League outings when Jesus has scored.

This Saturday they face Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Next month it is the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid with City holding a 2-1 advantage.

Can Jesus start creating a new record in those competitions?

NO Championship club has seen more red cards this season than Wigan. Defender Danny Fox became their sixth in the 0-0 stalemate at Barnsley on Saturday.

Fox was sent off in the 71st minute – getting a straight red for a high tackle on Elliot Simoes.

IT was one of the eye-catching Championship results of the weekend: QPR 0 Sheffield Wednesday 3. And with it came an unwanted record for the west London side because QPR have now let in 39 league goals at home this season, the most they have conceded at home in a single campaign in their league history.

MO SALAH might have won the Premier League title and be third in the top-flight’s goalscoring charts.

But the Liverpool striker was joined yesterday at the top of another list by Wolves’ Raul Jimenez (right).

His first-half penalty in the 3-0 win over Everton at Molineux, meant Jimenez has been directly involved in 35 goals in all competitions for Wanderers this season – 25 goals, 10 assists – putting him level with Salah.

No other Premier League players have had a hand in more goals.
