Court call for BAME people
BLACK Lives Matter activists should become magistrates to improve diversity, members of the bench say.
The number of magistrates has dropped 43% in the past eight years from 25,000 to 15,000 in 2019.
The Magistrates Association hopes scrutiny of the justice system after the protests will encourage BAME people to volunteer.
Magistrate Jacqueline MacDonald-Davis said: “No longer standing on the sideline and shouting in, [young people] have to engage in the process.”
