Ophelia (Emily Reid) – who appeared to be sitting in a police interview room – explaining how she was “always frightened of the house from the first moment I saw it”.

Whistle-stop flashbacks told how Ophelia had been having an affair with married lecturer Michael Callaghan (Emmett J. Scanlan). We also met

Michael’s wife

Paul Mescal

Roisin (Catherine Walker), who had a warning for Ophelia in the ladies’ loo: “Not all women are allies. Some are the enemy.”

Then Roisin’s creepy mate Ruth (Shelley Conn) turned up on a college stairway, hissing: “You’re not the first.”

As Ophelia herself admitted, the most sensible response would have been to run for the hills.

That wouldn’t have been very dramatic though. So when Michael suddenly went off-grid she traced him to Ireland – and arrived just in time for Roisin’s funeral. Turned out Roisin had perished in a fire at the mansion. Was it a terrible accident? Was it Michael? Or was it the “ghost” that had a habit of tapping loudly from inside a locked room?
