WE HAVE AN OLYMPIAN TASK AHEAD
DANIEL PODENCE is warning Wolves not to underestimate Olympiakos again if they are to keep their European dream alive.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side’s hopes of a Europa League spot for next season after finishing seventh were ended by Arsenal winning the FA Cup.
Their only guarantee of continued continental football is to win this season’s Europa competition with its Champions League place.
Wolves host Olympiakos on Thursday in a last-16 second leg after a 1-1 draw in March when the Greeks had Ruben Semedo sent off.
If they win, Wolves will head to Germany for a mini-tournament to face Roma or Sevilla in the quarter-finals.
Podence (above), 24, signed for £17million from Olympiakos in January, says his team-mates now realise the quality of their opponents.
The Portugal winger said: “It will be very difficult. Some of my colleagues were surprised, but they controlled the game – even with one less man.”
