Confusion reigns over Covid battle

-

■ This inept Government should know the only way to beat Covid is to keep a safe distance. If you have to go where this is difficult or impossible there are precautions that must be taken.

But we have rules for going on a bus or train, rules for going to the cinema, for visiting family, getting our hair done, going to the pub or for going for a walk and we get different rules for the same eating establishment according to whether you are eating in the place or picking up a takeaway.

Just keep it simple. We manage our everyday risks by being careful and we can manage Covid in exactly the same way – be careful. Terry Marriott Waterlooville, Hants

■ More than four million people in my area are back in lockdown. The spike in infections is down to the Government’s mismanagement of this virus from day one. Matt Hancock blames it on people not sticking to social distancing but the figures from the Office for National Statistics tell another story. Some 25,000 hospital patients discharged into care homes without being tested, a lack of protective kit and rushing people back to work were major contributory factors. Yes, jobs and the economy are important but people’s lives must be paramount. Eric Thorpe, Salford Gtr Manchester

■ It beggars belief that Health Secretary Matt Hancock and the other failures in the Tory camp are attempting to take the moral high ground by pinning the blame on the rise in infections of Covid-19 on people disregarding social distancing rules.

Let’s not forget Johnson’s buddy Dominic Cummings grossly breached the lockdown and got away with it without a word of apology or even a slap on the wrist, so the blame lies squarely with him.

Denis Sewell, Redcar, North Yorks

■ I wonder how many people have become ill with Covid and how many have died all because Johnson decided to allow people to gather in pubs, throwing booze into the mix, expecting them to social distance?

Now he decides family and neighbours can’t congregate in their gardens but they can go to the pub and socialise. If this is an example of an Eton education then it doesn’t amount to much.

Douglas Higgins, Liverpool

■ Sometimes it’s hard to believe that humans are the most intelligent life on the planet. Social distancing and the wearing of masks is being totally ignored by millions in this country. It is obvious the Government can’t rely on the public – they need to stop dilly-dallying as the people need strong guidance.

Roger Grant, Thurnscoe South Yorks

■ All the authorities seemed to have achieved is frightening the life out of people. One minute we are told wearing a mask makes little difference, then we’re told we must wear them on public transport and in shops. In the North you can’t visit your relations but you can sit in a pub. What has happened to common sense?
