Girl, 15, died during op to pull 4 teeth
INQUEST Tragic Alex
A TEENAGER died during routine dental surgery so she could have a brace fitted, an inquest heard.
Denisa Alexandra Stefanoaia, known as Alex, had the 19-minute operation to remove four teeth under general anaesthetic.
Alex, 15, was “severely obese” but not considered at risk, St Pancras coroner’s court heard.
She bit down on a tube during the “straightforward” procedure at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, starving her brain of oxygen. Alex, from Watford, was pronounced dead five days later.
Senior registrar Dr Atheer Ujam, who carried out the surgery, said he would not do anything differently if faced with a similar patient.
The inquest continues.
Minke whales & dolphins joined the frenzy
ENDANGERED bluefin tuna have been seen swimming with whales and dolphins not far off the British coast.
These stunning pictures taken by kayaker Rupert Kirkwood show the world’s most valuable fish.
Also known as giant tuna, one was sold last year in Japan for £2.5million.
On August 11, Rupert saw a group of hundreds of tuna, and witnessed a two-hour feeding frenzy three miles off Plymouth, Devon.
It is illegal to catch them in the UK and to see them in these numbers so close to the coast is extremely rare.
Rupert, 60, said: “Getting a photo of them is virtually impossible because they are so fast. The reason I did is because so many were erupting from the surface.”
