WALKER: I THOUGHT WINNING THE LEAGUE WAS ENOUGH BUT IT ISN’T ..EUROPE’S WHAT I WANT

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

KYLE WALKER’S dreams have had to change in the three years since he joined Manchester City.

The England full-back admits winning the Premier League was his main motivation when he made the £50million switch from Tottenham.

But two titles later his focus has shifted towards helping City lift the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Walker (below) knows it must be the next step for a club desperate to make their mark on the biggest stage of all after dominating the domestic scene.

He said: “If you had asked me two years ago, when I signed here, I would have probably said the Premier League was the big one for me having not won it before.

“Now I have collected two of them and a number of other honours, but this is the one I want.

“I can speak on behalf of the whole squad – they need this to put them on to that next pedestal. It’s a unique situation we’re in but I feel like we just have to attack it as we

attack every game, whether in the Premier League, cups or Champions League.

“Our team and philosophy are going to stand us in good stead to get us to where we want, which is the final.”

Walker, 30, also has an FA Cup medal and a hat-trick of EFL Cup triumphs to show for his time at City.

Pep Guardiola’s men go into tomorrow’s quarter-final against Lyon in Lisbon as red-hot favourites to lift the European crown.

And Walker, whose outstanding performances this season included a stint in goal when Claudio Bravo was sent off against Atalanta, will do whatever it takes to prevail in Portugal.

He said: “Obviously I have dreams of playing in the Champions League final and lifting the trophy.

“We have an important game against Lyon, it would be disrespectful to look past that. They are here by merit and have beaten Juventus.

“You make a mistake in a big game like this and you are going to get punished.

“But like we showed against Real Madrid, we are capable of punishing any team.”
