I’LL GET BETTER .. AT ANY KOST

Robertson not fazed by arrival of Tsimikas and insists it will make him an even better player than he is now

ANDY ROBERTSON believes the arrival of Kostas Tsimikas will only help ensure he stays at the top of his game.

The Scot has become one of the best left-backs in Europe under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Robertson, 26, signed for the Reds in 2017 for just £8million from Hull City.

And he has turned out to be a bargain with 25 assists over the last two seasons in which Klopp’s side have won the Champions League and Premier League.

But the Liverpool boss has opted to bring in back up for Robertson this summer with the £11.75m signing of Tsimikas from Olympiakos. “It’s up to me to keep putting in performances and hopefully stay number one leftback,” said Robertson.

“I want to play as many games as I can, to stay fit, to keep my levels high. That’s my attitude.”

Sco t land international Robertson feels the competition is needed in Klopp’s squad to ensure the Reds stay at the top of the Premier League.

“We have competition in every place and it’s up to the lads that get the starting jersey to keep it and that’s going to be my aim,” said Robertson.

“I’ve had probably two-and-ahalf seasons here which have been incredible and I feel as if I’ve played well and I’ve grown in stature and everything like that. But it’s about continuing that and hopeful ly have another successful season ahead of me.”

Greek ace Tsimikas, who came through the youth system at Olympiakos, has settled in well to life at Liverpool and Robertson believes he will be a good addition to the squad.

He said: “You can see him growing in confidence as a player and as a person in the squad and that’s credit to all the lads and all the staff.

“We’ve all been there, we all know how daunting it is walking into a new changing room and not knowing anyone and things like that. But we all know how that feels and we’re all very cautious of that so we try to make people feel as welcome as they can and as quickly as they can.

“The quicker you get the person out of his shell, the quicker you get the player out of his shell. I think that’s what’s happened. I’ve seen him in training and he looks a really good player.

“I can’t say I saw much of him playing for Olympiakos and things like that but it’s up to the club and they’ve seen something there that can improve the squad and I’ve got no doubt he will do.”
