WORRY ABOUT BIG-SPENDING CHELSEA? DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH!

- BY DAVID MADDOCK @MaddockMirror

CHELSEA have made a splash in the transfer market this summer but it has caused barely a ripple at Anfield.

That is the message from Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson ahead of their Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Until they struck a deal with Bayern Munich for Thiago Alcantara this week, champions Liverpool had been the picture of caution in the transfer window. That contrasted sharply with Chelsea, who have made this a spend spend spend summer.

Even after Thiago’s arrival, the Reds are still eclipsed by the £200m-plus spending of tomorrow’s rivals but, according to Robertson, there is such belief in Jurgen Klopp’s squad that they fear no one.

“We will do our business on the pitch,” the Scot said. “We have shown over the last two

or three years our squad depth is good and, when called up, everyone steps up. If we do that again and avoid injuries, we will be competitive again.

“Maybe over the years Liverpool fans would have been desperate for a squad like this – one that can compete for trophies – and we have done it for three years.

“Now it is about doing it for many more years. Whether we fall short ort or we win is still to be seen, en, but we will give 100 0 per cent effort with

100 per cent quality.

It is up to us to do it t again.”

Robertson has writwritten a book about last season’s incredible journey. All proceeds from sales of ‘Robbo: Now You’re Gonna Believe Us’ will go towards the Scotland captain’s newly-formed charity, AR26, which aims to give underprivileged kids a chance in life.

“That is one of the main reasons I did it. To know I can make a difference and help kids who are not as fortunate as others. Hopefully the money raised can make a difference,” Robertson (above, with team- mate Trent Alexander- Arnold) said. But he is not convinced Chelsea’s money will make a difference this season.

“We’ve been questioned every season,” he said. “When we lost the Champions League final everyone asked ‘ will they be back?’ We went into the next season winning the Champions League and just falling short in the Premier League. Even then people said ‘ if they didn’t beat them this seas season, they’re never going to beat Man City.’

“The following season we went and proved it. We’ve got doubters again. If we are the so- called underdogs again then we enjoy being underdogs. From when the gaffer came in, he had his own plan, his own journey, and we have gone on that. It is not finished.”
