GOAL MAGNET HARV ‘A STAR’

- BY JAMES NURSEY

LEICESTER v BURNLEY King Power Stadium: Tomorrow, 7pm

BRENDAN RODGERS has tipped “electric” Harvey Barnes to start smashing in goals for Leicester to earn an England call.

Attacking ace Barnes caught the eye last term in his first full season in the Premier League. He weighed in with six goals and eight assists in 36 games.

Barnes, 22, has started this season with a bang too after starring in the 3-0 opening win at West Brom.

He impressed playing off striker Jamie Vardy, who scored two penalties.

Foxes boss Rodgers insists the uncapped former England Under-21 starlet is so exciting he can be hit for both Leicester and the national team.

Rodgers said: “Harvey Barnes was electric for a lot of last season and has shown tremendous potential. Now it is the case of continually looking to improve and it is my job to challenge him to achieve even greater things.

“For Harvey, England is a realistic aim. The boys ahead of him at the moment are real talented boys. But he has this power which he can sustain over a long distance.

“If he can increase his numbers and get into double figures this year – he makes a number of assists as well – then he can be knocking on the door.

“There is no doubt he is a really gifted player.”

Barnes got his major breakthrough in the Championship at West Brom for six months from August 2018 as he notched nine goals and six assists.

And he was outstanding back at the Hawthorns last Sunday. “He did very well going back to West Brom,” added Rodgers. “The likes of Harvey will improve this year. I have no doubt.

“I just think he is only going to get better and better.”
