Tory: Public to buy statue of the Queen
A TORY MP has called for public donations so a statue of the Queen can be erected in London to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
Preliminary sketches have been made for the monument, according to MP Sir David Amess.
The Queen will celebrate 70 years on the throne in 2022.
Sir David told the Commons: “The British Monarchists Society recently came to me with a project, which I’m sure the nation would back.”
He said it is planned for “a prestigious suitable position in the vicinity of Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Westminster”.
Sir David also wants a UK equivalent of the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a statue of singer Dame Vera Lynn, who died in June.
