MY CRAFT CORNER

-

There’s not much to do in the garden these days, but we know you like to keep busy, so we’re starting a new feature in our community page today for all you knitting circle queens and DIY demons out there.

Forced to rest up after major foot surgery five weeks ago, Marilyn Burn in Rickmansworth, Herts, has been putting her enforced down time to good use.

The 74-year-old says, “I’m on crutches and foot rest for six weeks – that’s an entire 42 days! So I thought I knit these Traffic Light hats for newborn babies. It’s so the nurses can quickly identify various needs – red for extra monitoring, yellow medium monitoring and green normal monitoring. They wear them for the first 24 hours after their birth, then take them home as a souvenir.

“I planned on one each day but it’s only the 34th day and I’m well ahead of schedule. This is what 100 baby hats looks like – and they are now winging their way to the local maternity ward.

“Hopefully I’ve only got another two weeks and I can get rid of my glamorous black boot, but I’ll continue with knitting for babies. It’s very rewarding.”
