Red Dwarf stars and old friends Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules celebrate 50 years of black British comedy legends in this special for Black History Month.
It’s a showbizzy talking heads, archive whizz through the decades, exploring the work of the sometimes forgotten black comedy icons of our time.
From the first breakout black comic, Yorkshireman Charlie Williams, to today’s rising stars such as Michaela Coel, as well as genre-defining shows like Desmond’s and The Real McCoy, no stone is left unturned.
Watch out for some classic scenes including Lenny Henry, Don Warrington in Rising Damp and Norman Beaton in Desmond’s, alongside those from the new generation of comedy talent like BGT star Kojo and Stateside breakout Gina Yashere.
Meanwhile, Craig and Danny tell anecdotes from their own careers, stretching back more than 30 years.
It’s a funny, pacy look at the changing landscape of British comedy and how black comics finally broke into mainstream television.
