EDINSON CAVANI has vowed to help make Manchester United Premier League champions again.

United, who have won the title a record 20 times, es, last came top of the pile in n 2013, in Sir Alex Ferguson’s n’s final season in charge (Fergie gie with the trophy, right).

Since then, their highest finish in the Premier r League is second, d, under Jose Mourinho, o, in 2017-18.

But Cavani (above), e), who joined the Reds as a free agent on deadline ne day, is convinced his s new team can be e champions again, and d said the title must be their aim this season.

“I think any player who is competitive by nature ature always wants to be able ble to win silverware,” said Cavani. “You always work hard, ard, so you can give the best account ccount yourself and, based on performing at your best, you can get the right results.

“Then, when you’ve picked up the right results, you can go on to win trophies and achieve big things. I I’ve ve just joined one of the biggest clubs in the world and I think one of the first objectives it has, as a club, is to win and be champions.

“I believe that you can’t help but think that a club like Manchester United U can aspire to win the t title. Starting with w the Premier Lea League and then movin moving on to other trophies trophies.

“That’s wha what I would like to achieve with this club – win trop trophies, win titles, and an then to be able to ma make the s a m e im impression he here that I’v I’ve always t tried to m make with e v e r y c club I’ve p played at.” S t r i ke r Cavani has been training al alone since joining United, with the 33- yearof old needing to quarantine for two weeks following his arrival in the UK from Paris.

With him missing Saturday’s trip to Newcastle, Cavani’s first action for United could be against former club Paris SaintGermain, a week today, in the Champions League.

“I was thinking it was just fate and how things can turn out,” Cavani told United’s official website. “It’s simply incredible, things always happen for a reason, and sometimes in the most unbelievable ways.

“So now it’s my turn to experience one of those kind of moments that you could never imagine happening and, when you look back, they really do.

“But it will be a great feeling and a nice experience, and it’s something that I’m very pleased about.

“I’m probably just missing that contact with my teammates, and getting up to speed on the training ground and the intensity of a game. But, from the moment I start training with my teammates, I can get up to speed in as short a period as possible, and be competing straight away and giving my best for the group.”
