GARETH SOUTHGATE has paid tribute to Kyle Walker after he surpassed World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst on England appearance­s.

Southgate revealed they did a pre-match presentati­on for r Walker (right), 30, before his 50th cap against Belgium, which puts him one ahead of 1966 hat-trick hero Hurst.

The Three Lions boss said: “We gave him a presentati­on and he goes level with Phil Neal and above Sir Geoff. To spend nine, 10 years playing for your country is incredible – he was excellent against Belgium.”

Southgate said: “He started to train on the Wednesday and was a little unhappy with how h he felt. We scanned just to be certain, but it’s a muscular fatigue issue rather than an injury, so it just needed a bit more confidence. “He’ll have gained that from the spell he had against Belgium, and so all being well, we hope he’ll be good to start on Wednesday.”
