Dowden has even warned the Government could step in. Dowden (below) said: “If we keep having backroom deals and other things going on we will have to look again at the underlying under governance of fo football.

“We promised in the manifesto a fan-led review and the events I have seen the t past few weeks have made m this seem more urgent.

“Unless the clubs and the Premier League and the EFL can get together urgently in order to support the game it does raise genuine questions about the governance of the sport.”
