THE Yorkshire accent has been named the most trusted in the UK.

The voice of “God’s own county” was the top choice for six in 10 Brits, who said it was gentle on the ear. According to a study, the famous Yorkshire tones of chat show host Michael Parkinson along with shows like Last of the Summer Wine and Emmerdale were found to be “intelligent” yet “calming”.

The Queen’s English – or Received Pronunciation – was second with Sean Connery’s “soothing and friendly” Edinburgh burr third. Brummie and Scouse accents were the least trusted of 15 accents in a poll of over 2,000 adults, with the former described as “slow, monotone” and lacking in vibrancy and the latter said to be “intimidating”.

Welsh and Geordie accents made the top five but Cockney and East Anglian accents were in the bottom five. The study by shopping website OnBuy. com said bosses are more likely to hire someone whose accent exudes honesty and reliability.

A spokeswoman said: “Yorkshire, the quintessentially ‘northern English’ accent, is often perceived as one of the most pleasing to the ear, perfect for outbound work calls.”
