Major: Tom will be out of this world...
IT’S pricey and the commute is challenging, but with space for extending, this residence has been hot property for 20 years.
No, not Buckingham Palace: The International Space Station.
This weekend saw the 20th anniversary of the ISS being continuously manned. But for one previous resident, the excitement is really about who’s heading up there next.
For while Hollywood might have come down to earth with a bump during the pandemic, Major Tim Peake can’t wait for Tom Cruise to film the first truly out of this world blockbuster.
In September, it was revealed Tom would be on a NASA/SpaceX launch in October 2021, to film the first movie on the ISS.
Now Major Tim, the only Brit to have experienced life there, says it will usher in a new age. “He’ll do brilliantly,” says Tim, 48. “He’s always so committed to his roles and the preparation that he does. He’ll make a great astronaut.”
And from Tim’s new autobiography Limitless, it will be quite the
role reversal. The astronaut indulged his love of Top Gun, even getting a motorbike to ride to his training as military flying instructor.
But he’d first unleashed his inner Tom Cruise after studying his Cocktail moves to impress girls while working at the Nag’s Head, Chichester.
Yet, when he decided to show these skills to Army mates on tour in Bosnia, it ended in a shower of glass and a sliced ankle. “I still have the scar,” says Tim. It sounds like Tom certainly left his mark on him.
