Have you ever wondered... why we get goosebumps?

-

Goosebumps are due to the contraction of tiny muscles in the hair follicles and they make body hair stand on end. This reaction is elicited by fear or cold.

In animals, hair standing on end creates insulation against the cold. It’s also useful when the animal is in danger as it will make it look bigger and can scare predators off.

We no longer have enough hair to take advantage of that insulating effect – or to frighten enemies.
