A SOFT TOUCH IN DEFENCE? WE’VE MEND-ED ALL THAT

-

FRANK LAMPARD claims Edouard Mendy has given Chelsea the security they needed in goal.

Lampard is delighted with how well the Senegal keeper, who comes up against his old club Rennes in midweek, has done since joining five weeks ago.

The £22million signing (above) has conceded just one goal in six appearances compared to the 14 Kepa Arrizabalaga shipped in his last six games.

“From the first game he played, against Tottenham in the League Cup, Edouard has shown he can give us the security we’re striving for,” said Blues boss Lampard. “But it’s not just him. I think we’re working on the discipline of the team, defending the box, but he’s been a constant for us.

“I’m so pleased with th the way he’s started. .

“When you sign players and bring them into the group, you never quite know if it’s the right move until they’re in the building, and he’s settled in really well. He trains hard and wants to make relationships with the players. It’s been a really good start for him.”
