John Letby, 77, from Hereford, had been watching proceedings from a public gallery at Chester crown court.

The bereaved families of her alleged victims were also watching by video conferencing. The court heard

Letby’s trial is likely to take up to six months – and unlikely to happen until next summer.

The case was adjourned until next week for legal submissions and then to February 19, 2021.

The neonatal nurse is accused of murdering five boys and three girls, and the attempted murder of nine other babies, between June 2015 and June 2016.

All of the tots were being treated in a premature baby unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Letby was arrested in 2018 and then re-arrested in 2019 and again earlier this week.
