PPE Mr Fixit who got UK’s £21m buys luxury pad

- BY GERARD COUZENS and MATTHEW YOUNG

THIS stunning mansion was recently bought by the Spanish businessman who was paid £21million of taxpayers’ cash to source PPE for the NHS.

Gabriel Gonzalez Andersson, 43, bought the four-bedroom home on a 2.5-acre plot on an exclusive estate a 15-minute drive from Madrid.

It includes a swimming pool and tennis court, and is in La Moraleja, the upmarket area where David Beckham lived with his family when he played for Real Madrid.

Spanish property records show businessman Andersson purchased the property in his name alone at the end of September.

Yesterday builders were working at the house and a top-of-the-range Mercedes and a 4x4 were seen being driven into the property.

There was no answer at the house when the Mirror knocked.

Mr Gonzalez Andersson netted the £21million for acting as a go-between on contracts to provide gowns, masks and other protective equipment for NHS doctors and nurses.

He received the money from US jewellery designer Michael Saiger, who won contracts with the UK government worth an estimated £200million despite having no experience of supplying PPE.

Mr Gonzalez Andersson, a consultant, was drafted in to help with “procurement, logistics, product sourcing and quality control” of the

PALATIAL Gonzalez Andersson and new home lifesaving equipment. The extraordinary deals came to light in court proceedings between Mr Saiger and the Spanish businessman in Miami, Florida.

The court documents described the consultant as having done “very well under this arrangement”.

He was said at one point to have been in line for more than £35million.

Mr Saiger claimed his previous encounters with factories in China left him well-equipped to fulfil orders.

As such, UK ministers handed his firm “a number of lucrative contracts” worth £200million, providing gloves and gowns to NHS staff.

Gonzalez Andersson’s job was to find manufacturers who could quickly provide millions of items of PPE for deals that had already been agreed for Mr Saiger.

The Spaniard was paid more than $28million (£21million) for work on two NHS contracts, before his boss signed three more deals in June.

But their relationship later broke down, leading to a court fight in Miami in which the eye-watering sums involved have been laid bare.

Mr Saiger is now suing Mr Andersson for breach of contract and “fraud in the inducement”.

He accuses Mr Andersson of “failing to perform any and all of his duties” for the three recent deals.

After fulfilling the contract, Mr Gonzalez Andersson would have been eligible for another £15million in fees.
