Klopp has a HUGE appetite for glory with Liverpool.. and that will keep him on Merseyside even if his country does come calling

IF THERE are any Liverpool fans out there worried that Jurgen Klopp might walk out of his club for his country, don’t be.

He will, one day, but not any time soon.

During a long chat at the end of last season, Klopp spoke about how even he had not realised how special the Liverpool job is.

And that made him more convinced than ever that it would be the last club role of his career.

It also made him more convinced than ever that it was a project that had far from run its course.

But he also admitted the German national job would be of interest to him.

Klopp misses his family and friends in Germany. That is only natural. He would like to be more involved in helping his two grown-up sons further their careers. He will go home at some stage, that is for sure. Klopp is a born planner. When he became a manager at the age of 33, he set himself a target of ‘25 power years.’

He did seven and a half at Mainz and seven at Borussia Dortmund, and, when his Anfield contract ends in 2024, it will be almost 24 years of intense club work. That would be the perfect time for him to take the national job.

Of course, it might not be available at that precise moment.

If Joachim Low ( below) is replaced any time soon, the next incumbent could be in for a long spell.

There have only been five

G e rm an nat iona l coaches in 30 years.

So if the German footba l l association came calling now, there probably would be a slight temptation.

The Euros in 2024 will be hosted by Germany, an attractive prospect for the next manager if Low is sacked. But Klopp, now ensconced in Liverpool’s new state-ofthe-art training centre, has a voracious appetite for more success with the Reds.

And that appetite will keep him on Merseyside, even if his country comes calling.
