SAUNDERS VOWS TOP TITLE TRIM

- DAVID ANDERSON

BILLY Joe Saunders has brought his barber into his bubble to make sure he is a cut above against Martin Murray tonight at Wembley Arena.

Saunders plans to defend his WBO super-middleweight title against Murray and set up a huge clash against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2021.

He wants to look his best and his barber has joined him in his bubble at the Wembley Hilton to be able to give him a trim.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “Bill has had his barber tested so he can join him in the bubble and cut his hair before the fight.”

Saunders, 31, (above) was due to face Alvarez in May before the coronavirus pandemic KO’d that contest to leave him gutted.

Alvarez faces Callum Smith in Texas on December 19 and Saunders believes his fellow Brit will lose.

“I would love the winner of that fight,” said the Traveller.

“Callum’s got the tools to win, but you have to have the right preparation time and put the man hours in and repeat that for maybe two, three months. I just think it’s all been crash, bang, wallop, give me my cash and let’s get it on.

“I hope I’m wrong and I hope he gets the job done as a fellow Brit.”

Saunders aims to retire four-time world title challenger Murray to end his frustrating year on a high.

“I’ve had a major disappointment, with the Canelo fight falling through,” said the southpaw. “I’ve rolled the dice again and here we are with Martin Murray.

“Afterwards he can go back to St Helens with his cash, and retire because that’s what I’m planning on doing to him, retiring him.”
