Trump in pot shot at Tyson

- BY HECTOR NUNNS

JUDD TRUMP has taken a pot shot at BBC Sports Personality rebel Tyson Fury and said that he is letting boxing down.

The Juddernaut (above) remains on course for a 12th title in just over two years after reaching the quarter-finals of the UK Championship with a 6-3 win over Ricky Walden in Milton Keynes.

Snooker is still basking in the reflected glory of seeing box-office star Ronnie O’Sullivan make the final six for the prestigious award.

And world No.1 Trump is relieved that the Rocket is fully engaging in the process after world heavyweight champion boxer Fury (below) told his own fans not to vote for him.

Trump said: “It was a strange thing to happen. I think Tyson knew he wasn’t going to win it and has done that to take the pressure off and not lose.

“He was standing there saying he didn’t want recognition from the BBC but with all his belts, so he likes that sort of recognition.

“When you get nominated it is for you, but also a bit for your sport. I wouldn’t want to see Ronnie do that and I’m sure he wouldn’t. It is throwing it back in the BBC’s face.

“We are all delighted Ronnie is on the list and he should have been there years ago, he has been neglected – in another sport I reckon he would have won it three times already. For me, only Roger Federer has ever made his own sport look so easy.”

Jack Lisowski, however, has revealed that his family can no longer listen to the brutal treatment he receives from TV pundits.

The 29-year-old known as Jackpot, who now plays Zhou Yuelong, is one of the most entertaining players on tour, but gets slammed for being careless and slapdash by the critics.

Lisowski said: “When my family watch me play on TV now they mute it and put some music on. I have listened to it back as well and I am given a very hard time by the pundits.

“I do get embarrassed when I miss or play bad shots and I’m thinking, ‘I know what they’ll be saying in the commentary box – what was that?’.

“So maybe that does add to the pressure I feel. And the sooner I can win something and ditch the tag of ‘good player, but never won a title’ the better. It will make that day sweeter.

“You can’t shut these people up until you have won.”
