Single parents hit hardest by pandemic
SINGLE parents are more likely to have been furloughed, had their hours cut and been forced to use foodbanks during the pandemic.
A report out today shows one in three lone mums and dads have been furloughed, compared to one in four in couples.
One in four saw their working hours reduced, compared to one in five coupled parents.
And 7% have had to use a foodbank, compared to 2% of couples, according to the study by the Learning and Work Institute and charities Gingerbread and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
Campaigners repeated calls for Chancellor Rishi Sunak to extend the £20-a-week rise in Universal Credit, due to end in April. But Gingerbread chief Victoria Benson called on the Government to “do more beyond the crisis”.
A Government official said it had a £30billion scheme to help people find work and training.
