Cops tougher on lockdown rule breakers

-

POLICE can question people on park benches or in cars in case they are breaking lockdown laws, warns Home Secretary Priti Patel.

People can only leave home in England for limited reasons, such as shopping for food or medicine, work if necessary and exercise, preferably once a day.

Ms Patel said more than 800 fines were issued for “egregious” breaches over two weeks at Christmas. The Met Police has said officers will be more “inquisitive” of people’s behaviour and be quicker to challenge rule breakers.

Forces around the country are expected to follow suit.

Ms Patel said officers have been asking people why are they out and will “exercise professional judgment” if they see a car from another local area.
