MARCUS Rashford and Lady Diana Spencer are now a top team – united by the rising popularity of their names.

Marcus is predicted to be third most popular name for baby boys this year, and the 23-year-old Man United ace and children’s champ gets the credit. Diana is tipped to be fourth favourite name for baby girls, and The Crown is responsible for that after Emma Corrin’s portrayal of the late princess in the hit Netflix drama. The charts are a prediction based on “pop culture” online searches last year. Connell gets No1 spot in the boys’ chart based on the number of searches about the character from Normal People, the Sally Rooney book serialised by the BBC.

Tom and David may be common names, but earn their places in the top five due to the popularity of NHS fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore and naturalist David Attenborough.

The success of singer Billie Eilish is responsible for the No1 name in the girls’ top five, while Maeve Wiley, the lead character in Netflix hit Sex Education gets the credit for the No2.

The third place choice is based on searches for Anya Taylor-Joy, who had the lead role in The Queen’s Gambit, the research by My Nametags found.

Lars B Andersen, of My Nametags, said: “We are always curious to identify new trends in popular names.”
