Trigger happy Chas

-

As the ultimate rockney duo, Chas & Dave’s career spanned four decades and made them national treasures.

During that time late singer Chas Hodges recorded so much unreleased material his family have been able to compile a posthumous release to document his journey through life.

The 10-track album includes Trigger (Is What I’m Known As) and What You Got You Gotta Show It – written with the Only Fools And Horses West End musical in mind – plus the catchy new single Street Games.

The song is an autobiographical tale of Chas’ childhood in Edmonton, describing the games he and his pals played plus a few local characters – including some lovable toerags.

The album also includes an ode to his

beloved gardening patch, Rock ‘n’ Roll Allotment and a loving tribute to his mum, Daisy Rag.

Chas died of pneumonia in 2018 at the age of 74 following a battle with oesophagus cancer.

He made the recordings between 2012 and 2017, even writing during chemotherapy sessions.

His son Nik – who contributes bass

and rhythms on the album – felt Chas would have considered the 10 songs finished enough to be released.

Chas’ widow Joan has written a personal tribute to her late husband. Marking what would have been his birthday last month, Joan wrote: “Miss him more than words can say.”
