The new BBC1 drama The Serpent had me hooked. It’s based on a true story about a mysterious couple who lure young backpackers to their apartment in Bangkok, Thailand, and drug them to steal their money and eventually murder them. A young Dutch diplomat does his utmost to catch this pair but isn’t helped by corruption being rife in the local police force who don’t want to take on the case. It’s riveting TV drama at its best with great acting from Jenna Coleman and the rest of the cast.

Congratulations to the scriptwriters at EastEnders for pulling out all the stops with their storylines over the festive season. It really was ‘edge of the seat’ stuff with twists and turns from start to finish, and convincing acting. I hope their TV ratings soared. Judy Morris, Woodingdean, Brighton
