This witty verse about the Lockdown Big Bottom Blues written by Catherine

Marchant from Grangetown, Cardiff, speaks for many of us.

The 63-year-old says, “I wrote this poem on New Year’s Eve, which was also my birthday and was inspired by the words of my friend Julia Richards, who made a comment about having the big bottom blues on our WhatsApp group.

“It really made me smile and, as usually happens, the words go around my head until I write it down. I think it certainly sums up last year.”

When these lockdowns started, The sun was shining bright We could all sit outside chatting, At a distance that was right.

The season changed to autumn, With the rain, umbrellas used,

We got stuck inside watching TV

We got the Lockdown Big Bottom Blues.

At first we went out cycling,

And a lovely walk in the park, But as the weather got colder, We stayed in, from morning till dark.

Unable to go on holiday,

And our caravan, we cannot use, The wrong food we ate too often, Oh, those lockdown Big Bottom Blues.

Light at the end of the tunnel, A vaccine is here now

We will all get through this together, One day, some way, somehow.

Then we will all meet up together, And see whomever we choose,

Get out and about in the sunshine, And get rid of those Big Bottom Blues.

2020 has been a hard year,

With sad times, that’s for sure.

I pray that things will be better, With some good times, and lots more.

So, these Lockdown Big Bottom Blues, Can just fly out the door,

We really, just don’t need you,

Not now, or forever more!
