COUNTY GANN BE SO AFRAID

- BY JEREMY CROSS

JIM GANNON has told his Stockport stars it is OK to feel scared ahead of tonight’s visit of West Ham in the FA Cup.

But he has told his National League minnows to go out and enjoy themselves because they have nothing to lose.

Gannon, whose side have reached the third round for the first time since 2007, said: “There’s going to be natural concern and stress. They’ll be worried about West Ham.

“All I want from them in this game is to play the game and enjoy the occasion. If they play the game as well as they can then they’ll enjoy it a lot more.”

Gannon, in his third stint as Stockport manager, grew up a Hammers fan before beating his boyhood side with Stockport (left, circled) in the 1996 League Cup.

He said: “I was on terraces of Upton Park from 1976 and never dreamt I’d play against them, but County made that possible for me.

“I still remember the extra special feeling from that game. Now it’s a chance c for my players.”
