WINNER JUST CHILD’S PLAY FOR MONCUR

- BY TOM HARVEY SIMON SLIUGA (LUTON)

SLEEPING solo is doing George Moncur the world of good.

The midfielder, 27, has been banished to the spare room for some much-needed shut-eye after recently celebrating the birth of he and his wife’s second child.

And he scored the only goal against fellow Championship side Reading to send Luton through to the fourth round.

Moncur (above) said: “I’ve got two kids. One girl, Saylor, who’s 19 months and a boy, Albert, who’s nearly three weeks.

“He’s been a bit better than she was at that age, but my missus, Chelsea, has been sleeping with him in a different room so I can get some kip!”

Moncur scored on the half-hour at Kenilworth Road with a sweet first-time volley from James Bree’s cross to net his second goal in as many games.

He credited Hatters boss Nathan Jones for his upturn in form.

“He’s on at me every day,” said Moncur. “He’s the first manager that really gives me information.

“I’ve always been able to score goals from midfield, but I used to switch off in games. Now I know what I have to do, on and off the ball. He’s helped me loads.”

A youthful Reading side were better after the break but could not find a way past keeper Simon Sluga, while Sone Aluko and substitute Nahum Melvin-Lambert hit the crossbar.

Royals manager Veljko Paunovic said: “I’m frustrated because we lost.

“But now, with only one competition to compete in, we turn our focus towards our quest for the top spots in the league.”
