LEAGUE TWO

-

SOUTHEND boss Mark Molesley says his battlers now have the defensive platform to boost their survival bid.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild’s brilliant 20-yarder buried Barrow and the Shrimpers held on despite losing Greg Halford to a 52nd-minute red card.

Molesley said: “You can see the improvements in the squad in terms of our organisation and defensive structure.

“But it’s just one game, you can’t get too high when we win, can’t get low when we lose.”

CAMBRIDGE boss Mark Bonner has challenged his players to tighten their grip on a promotion spot.

Wes Hoolahan completed The U’s comeback after Joe Ironside cancelled out Jack Muldoon’s strike to lift Bonner’s side into the top three. Town sub Lloyd Kerry saw red on 78 minutes.

Bonner said: “Any time you get consecutive wins in this league, it gives you a chance of consolidating in the area of the league we want to compete in.”

TOM CONLON insisted Port Vale can turn around their season after a first win in six games.

Shaun Brisley, Devante Rodney and a Luke Waterfall own goal ensured caretaker-boss Danny Pugh marked his first game with a win following John Askey’s sacking.

And midfielder Conlon said: “It’s a massive win for us but it means nothing if we don’t build on it. The season’s not over by any stretch of the imagination.”
