SHARMAINE LINCOLN TELLS OF HER DEAD SON KEON

THE devastated mum of tragic schoolboy Keon Lincoln has told how she heard the gunshots that killed her “fun-loving” son.

Keon, 15, was shot and stabbed by a gang of youths in broad daylight yards from the front door of his family home last Thursday.

His killers fled in a car that later crashed into a house two miles away.

Popular Keon died in hospital from his injuries after the attack in Handsworth, Birmingham.

Police were questioning two 14-year-old boys and two other teens, 15 and 16, on suspicion of his murder.

A third 14-year-old boy has been released under investigation. Keon’s mum Sharmaine Lincoln yesterday begged for help in bringing his killers to justice, as police told of their disappointment at the lack of assistance from the local community.

Sharmaine said she was at home at 3.30pm when she heard shooting outside.

She said: “I heard the gunshots, my first instinct was, ‘Where’s my son?’ A few minutes went by, we heard somebody was up the road and it was my boy.”

In a statement issued through police, she added: “I’ve lost a part of me, my heart has been ripped out of me. How do you live after your child has been taken away from you?”

She said her son was a “loving child with a jolly spirit” whose “unbelievable laugh” echoed around her home.

She added: “He was a joker, fun-loving. Cheeky. He had a lot of love for family and friends. He liked eating, a whole lot.

“Playing on his PlayStation, listening to music, singing at the top of his voice. His laugh was loud, not a day went by when you wouldn’t hear it. He had a jolly spirit. It doesn’t make sense why someone would want to harm him or take his life in such a brutal way.” Pleading for help from the public, she said: “If you have any knowledge, big or small, just come forward, help us to figure out why this happened.”

Det Chief Insp Alastair Orencas of West Midlands Police said: “It’s the most pointless use of extreme violence I’ve witnessed in my 24 years in the force.” He said the response from the local community was “not where it should be”. He added: “These are multiple offenders in broad daylight. I simply don’t believe there’s not information out there that can help the inquiry.”
