My lockdown BakeOff

-

Instead of relaxing while on furlough, two caring and passionate bakers have been making delicious treats for hardworking NHS staff and paramedics in the capital, where services have been pushed to the limit.

With the support of their employer, wellness centre Cloud Twelve club in Notting Hill, which donated the use of the club’s kitchen, the two young French women have been creating bags of goodies for our NHS heroes.

Food and beverage manager Camille Lemmery, 30, and 31-year-old head pastry chef Kelly Nadjarian have been rolling up their sleeves, baking treats and delivering them to the London Ambulance Service in Waterloo every Monday, and Hammersmith Hospital every Thursday, plus the local foodbank.

Camille says: “We felt really concerned about Covid and wanted to help the people who risk their lives to save others.

“We don’t have a lot, but we can cook, so every day we go to the club and bake lemon cupcakes, coconut meringues, banana bread, pains aux raisins and our diamond cookies with chocolate, vanilla, coconut and lime.”

The ladies funded the project out of their own pockets, but are now being sponsored by chocolate brand Valrhona, and suppliers Classic Fine Foods and Classic Fresh Foods have been providing ingredients. Camille adds: “When we delivered this week to the LAS, it was amazing to share some happiness with the staff.”

When we look back at these dark times, I hope we’ll remember the kindness of ordinary people. Bravo Camille and Kelly – you’re our top bakers of the year!
