A MAN returned from a stint working abroad to find his wife was half the woman she had been after losing almost eight stone.

Darren Hunt, 43, spent 10 months working in the Middle East.

He was unable to visit Abigail, 44, due to national borders being closed. But when he finally returned, he found her almost unrecognisable.

Midwife Abigail had started watching her diet and exercising in lockdown.

After ditching bad habits, including packets of biscuits, she eventually lost an impressive 7st 10lb.

Darren told friends: “She looks amazing. I was so glad to come home.”

Abigail, who works at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in North Wales, said it was “amazing” to see her husband once she was in her new fitter state.

She said of shaping up during pandemic: “It has been a really stressful time for everyone. I put all my energy into staying on track – by the start of lockdown I could feel my body changing and my health improving.

“I made sure I used our allowed exercise and went out for walks.

“I was determined to eat healthy and exercise.

“I made sure that every meal counted in a positive way. My family were behind me and are my biggest supporters.”

Abigail, of Brymbo, Wrexham, a dropped her body mass index from 49.8 to a healthier 30.2 with the help of her supportive Slimming World group led by Diane Hendley-Jones.

She said: “I had very high blood pressure that was medicated and I suffered with terrible headaches as a result.

“My joints would always complain when I stood up. As a community midwife, I would spend lots of time sitting or kneeling on the floor leaning over babies etc and just the act of leaning forwards was an issue due to my size.

“Getting up was another thing in itself.” Abigail says she now enjoys

cooking healthy meals with her family. She said of planning to diet: “I would always think I would start after this packet of biscuits was finished or after the next family occasion.

“I would promise myself that I would be better from tomorrow. The journey just seemed so long so that extra biscuit wouldn’t make that much difference.”

She said looking at pictures of herself helped her realise it was time to lose weight, explaining: “My decision was compounded after looking at holiday photos so I really started my journey for the last time after that.

“I am not quite where I want to be – but I am a million miles away from where I started. I honestly felt like it would never happen to me.”
