SCOTT HAMMERS SURVIVAL MESSAGE

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

SCOTT PARKER wants David Moyes’ resurgent West Ham side to be a “role model” for Fulham.

The east London club survived a relegation battle last season and are now up into fifth in the Premier League.

After adding defensive solidity following Moyes’ arrival, the Hammers have scored six times in their last two away games before visiting Craven Cottage today.

But Fulham, last year’s Championship play-off winners, are now eight points from safety as their improved defensive record has not been followed by more goals at the other end.

They have not won in 11 – and scored only three times in the last five games.

Parker (right) said: “West Ham are definitely a role model for us. David’s done an amazing job there. Last year, West Ham were struggling a little bit.

“Those problems are always there.

How quick you can fix them is what I’m going to be judged on and what I’m going to judge the team on.

“We’ve fixed one problem. We have become much harder to beat, we are giving ourselves a chance in games. The next challenge is to win. Winning is going to keep us in this division.” Parker was relegated with Avram Grant’s shambolic Hammers side in 2011 but insists Fulham are not in the same state.

“We probably suffered a slow death at West Ham – I didn’t have the feeling of what I feel here,” said the three-time Hammer of the Year winner.

“We’ve stepped up to the league with a young squad. One thing which I knew we needed was this constant belief, this constant work ethic about us to give us a fighting chance and we’ve certainly got that. That needs to be maintained.”
